Export to ePUBΒΆ

_images/exportePUB.png

This procedure uses the HTML conversion of the previous step to create an ePUB. If the HTML conversion has not yet been executed, this procedure will not start, unless the setting has been activated that the HTML conversion will take automatically. Changes made to the HTML in the previous step will not be taken into account.

Depending on the source, this ePUB might need tweaking before publication, for example in Sigil or other programs.

It is possible to include your own stylesheet as specified in the settings. Otherwise there is a choice to take the default (very simple) stylesheet or having a stylesheet generated based on the settings in the used Word styles. In the latter case, the fonts can be added to the ePUB as well.

If there are images in the Word document at the time of the export to HTML, these will also be present in the ePUB. Equations can be stored in the ePUB as either SVG or PNG images.

If this procedure is started, the screen on the right will be displayed. In the fields the corresponding information can be entered. Only author, title and language are required, the other fields are optional. The value for file-as will be entered automatically when the author has been entered. It can be adapted if required.

The author and subject/genre field can contain multiple entries. The can be separated by an ampersand, comma or semi-colon.

If the document already contains some metadata, those fields will be prefilled.

When a series name (and number) is entered, Calibre will recognize the series information by default. As the Dublin Core for ePUB2 does not contain values for series, the Calibre style metadata for series is used.

In case a cover is entered, the cover will be on a separate page/file. It will be the first page in the ePUB and it will be defined as cover page.

It is possible to choose between ePUB2 and ePUB3 type. In the ePUB3 type the equations would be converted to MathML (when selected) and notes defined either as foot- or endnotes, depending if notes will be placed at the end of each chapter or at the end of the ePUB.
